Memorial Day part 1

Memorial Day was a BLAST! Our day was filled with family and friends ~~~ the best way to celebrate the day! I am so thankful for my family and dear friends too!

Our morning began as each one of the boys' feet touched the floor. They don't seem to ever sleep in when they have a day off of school, let alone summer vacation! The school mornings are so much different! lol

We put the calico beans in the crockpot and let them cook for the morning. The layered salad was quickly put together and into the fridge. Time to get ready . . . shower, makeup and hair (this statement is important for later).

Around 11:00 a.m. family and friends began arriving! Party time!

Randy already started up the Green Egg and other Grill . . . he was a HUGE help and great chef with the giant hot dogs, hamburgers and steak. Everyone ate  . . . yummy delicious fabulous foods. Katelyn's cookies and pies were a huge hit! The Key Lime cake was also a hit!!! Cinnamon rolls . . . yummy deliciousness too!

After eating the outside festivities began . . .

Swimming . . .

Little kid fish were everywhere! lol

It was too windy for the great big umbrellas, but Aunt Janeie made due!

Grandma was keeping up with the leaves that were blowing into the pool.

and some of the others were waiting their turn for jet ski rides

the jet skiers were coming in to switch off

more pictures and story to come tomorrow!

Here are a few photos of our day . . .

The pantry was tidied and everything was in order . . .
Katelyn went to the grocery store and got everything we need for  our Memorial Day Celebration.

Katelyn made three batches of sugar cookies . . . they are inside the covered tins. The kids tried a few . . . you know, just to make sure they were good enough to serve on Monday!

The dough is rising for Pioneer Woman's Cinnamon Rolls . . .
I divided the dough into two bowls and put them in the fridge.
Would you believe the dough is still rising in the fridge?

Key Lime cakes are in the oven.
(please ignore the spill over sheet pan in the bottom of the oven ~ it keeps the oven free from burnt on spills)

Katelyn was busy in the kitchen . . . one of her favorite places to be
cooking gets a little messy!

Ryan was thrilled that Katelyn was in the kitchen cooking.

Pretty apples . . . waiting for tomorrow's baking

The kitchen is all tidied up and back to normal after our baking fun!

Tomorrow pie baking!

Rain, BLESSED, Preparations, Summer Vacation

The skies are dark once again . . . rain is coming. I am thankful though . . . everything is plush and green . . . we could have been one of the many that have been devastated by the recent tornadoes. So many times I think "we are just not thankful enough!"

Our children do not understand how fortunate and blessed they are. We try to tell them and show them how other people, children simply have nothing . . . no home, no food, no momma or daddy to call their own. Today I read of a 14 year old boy in China . . . all he wants is a Momma and Daddy to love him. Just the thought brings tears to my eyes! I am thankful our children do not know the pain this little boy feels. I am thankful the Lord planned for the boys to be OURS.

Today we begin preparation for Memorial Day. We have planned a full day of fun and food . . .

What kinds of fun? I knew you would be wondering . . .

swimming, fishing, jet skiing, boating, silly string, kids on the playset, running and playing in the sand

there will also be plenty of relaxing and chatting (I am looking forward to that!)

You bet! Plenty of yummy goodness . . . Hope everyone brings their appetites!

There will be cookies, cake, pies, cupcakes . . . oh yeah!

Hamburgers, Hot dogs, filet mignon . . . all fresh from the butcher

chips and dip, veggie tray, baked beans, cheese and crackers

layered salad - can't wait to see how this comes out

calico beans . . . just because they are amazing!

Cinnamon rolls too . . . from the Pioneer Woman recipe!!! Oh My Soul!

Yep, Katelyn and I are going to be in our realm . . . making yummy goodness for family and friends!

I can imagine the smell of delightfulness lofting from my kitchen already.

The kids have been out of school for one week now. They are enjoying their special time with Mrs. S!
She is such a delight for them! She is a special angel for me . . . I don't have to worry about them during the day (three days a week) or what they are up to. I know she has it covered!
Just because it is summer doesn't mean there isn't learning going on.
Not in my house . . .
the kids are all reviewing what they learned in school this past year.
They have devotion and prayer time.
Games, playing in the sand, skateboard time.
Plenty to keep little boys busy.

Well, my second cup of coffee is just about gone . . .
I should get myself moving . . .
lots to do!

Have a great one . . .
and be SAFE!

Those were the words I was told tonight, by my five year old.

Hysterical really . . . he was "showing" me how to fish!

He has quite the "moves" . . .

for a little guy!

It wasn't long after the bobbers hit the water that fish were being reeled in.
EJ and Cody first with their lil' fish . . . caught all by themselves.

They  loved reeling the fish in, but didn't like taking the fish off so much.
Mom to the rescue!

It wasn't long before Ryan caught the first Bass . . .

and was busy casting once again.

Mia and Kamie were hanging out with us while we fished . . . Ryan took care of his own pole.

The three boys all congregated together on one end by the water run off culvert between our home and our neighbors to the right. The culvert is basically the lot line area.

Oh the concentration . . .
can I interject . . .
poor lil' fish!

Love the look on Ryan's face . . .
I wonder what the fish thought with Ryan's finger in his throat!
Ryan also had a pretty good grip.

Cody was thoroughly "into" the fishing.

EJ too

EJ was really working on putting that worm on the hook.

Got it!

another . . . "watch and learn" moment

this one was a Bass . . . EJ was thrilled!
Wiggly fish!

Would you believe my boys would not give those fish a kiss on the nose?

Sheesh . . . and they call themselves fishermen!

Today . . . a Weird Kind of Day . . . Even for me!

Today was a weird kind of day . . . even for me!

This morning Mia had an appointment at our wonderful Veterinarian's office, so I didn't head into the office first thing, but took things a teeny bit slower. I made my coffee before I left in a to go cup, grabbed Mia and off we went. I dialed my Mom and was enjoying a nice little chat on speaker phone, sipping my hot coffee and driving along in my SRX . . . just minding my own business. When all of a sudden I notice a police car that just turned off of a major road and onto the four lane road . . . turned his lights on. I immediately looked down at my speedometer . . . uh oh, he is going to turn around and be right behind me! Ten seconds later, I had pulled off to the side of the road and he was right behind me with his lights on. Yep . . . major uh oh!

Mr. Policeman came up beside my car . . . and asked for my license and proof of insurance. Of course, I had a hard time getting my license out of my wallet and apologized for taking so long. I handed both items to Mr. Policeman and then apologized to him . . . I was guilty . . . I had been speeding.
Mr. Policeman smiled at me as I explained I was going to our vets office with my little Mia, talking on speaker phone with my Mom and drinking my coffee . . . I had failed to pay attention to my speed.
I then told him that he was the first to pull me over and give me a ticket  . . .
in almost 30 years of driving . . . I had never been pulled over for speeding.
Mr. Policeman smiled and said, "I am not going to give you a ticket".
I am quite certain I had a puzzled look on my face . . . I certainly deserved a ticket and I told him that I did.
He smiled again and said, "I am not going to ticket you . . . although I did clock you doing 64 mph.
(the speed limit was 45 mph . . . this road heads out into the country).
Mr. Policeman then said, "this road is VERY easy to speed on . . . in fact, I was driving my pickup and wasn't paying attention and when I looked, I was going 80 mph."
This guy was VERY understanding!!!
Mr. Policeman took my information back to his car  . . . he had to log it in that he pulled me over.
Within minutes he was back . . . Mia had poked her little head around the seat of the car. Mr. Policeman noticed her and asked what her breed was . . . "Miki". We talked a few minutes and he was quite pleasant.
He wished me well, mentioned to be a bit more careful and headed back to his car.
Mia and I headed back onto the roadway . . . another minute and we arrived at the vet appointment.

I am so thankful Mr. Policeman showed me GRACE!

*** on to the next part of my day ***

I was working on a bit of paperwork at the office when the figures simply were not adding up.
I went into my husband's office and had him look at the figures  . . .
I was correct, they were wrong.
We had been billed more than $109,000.00 on an invoice when in actuality
the total should have been $44,000.00.
Another invoice we were billed $11,000.00 more . . . another mistake.
I am certainly glad I was paying attention to the figures!!!

Quite the strange day!

Tonight . . . a bit of rest and relaxation.

Our little Beckett is 6 weeks old today. She weighs 1 lb 10 ounces.
Here is an updated picture:

and brother Nevada . . .
2 lbs 6 ounces

The puppies are sure growing.

The wind came up quickly and the sky turned green. We had torrential rains and are having severe thunderstorms. We are under a tornado watch as I write and are in the basement with the kids, dogs and guinea pig. Randy has been keeping an eye on the sky and an ear to listen to hear what the weather is doing . . . listen for sirens and train sounds. It could be a busy weather night!

We are thankful to have a finished basement to head to when the weather is bad. Years ago, we only had a crawl space that was full of nasty spiders.

Two of the boys were a bit anxious about the storm, but everyone else was calm.
Tonight may be a bit of a challenge . . . the weather may keep us hopping.

Have a great night and Be Safe!
