Weekend Recap - January 31.

The kids are getting ready to watch G Force on DVD. The day has been pretty good today . . . didn't do much, just let the kids play and hung out. The extent of my work today has been pay bills, balance the home checking and the work checking and tidy Bugsy's cage a bit - somehow his water bottle emptied all over one end of the cage and his bedding was wet.

Naps were on the list for today and were well received.

Yesterday afternoon, Ryan, Katelyn, Mia and I went out and about. Hobby Lobby was our first stop as Katelyn needed to get some mats for her frames to put her latest drawings in. Then it was off to Petsmart to look for a few things. Mia got to go in and at first she was very nervous and shaking . . . when she was a puppy I would take her and she would get very nervous in the fish section. All of those creatures swimming around really made her nervous. We looked at all of the animals and fish - they had a beautiful Conure . . . I would love to have a large bird! This is what a Conure looks like, but is not the one we saw.

We also saw snakes, lizzards, cameleons, birds, mice, hamsters and gerbils. It was nice to just walk around and see the animals, crickets - for fishing, crabs, turtles, fish.

After Petsmart, we drove to TGI Friday's and I went in and placed an order for take out. We drove around for 20 minutes - or I should say, Katelyn drove around for 20 minutes and then we went back and picked up our most amazing dinner and headed home. Katelyn was excited to get in so much driving time - around 2 hours worth to add to her requirements before getting her license. We always told her she had to be 17 . . . I am freaking out a little because she turns 17 on Thursday. She won't be allowed to get her license yet . . . she needs much more time behind the wheel. Now, don't get me wrong - she does pretty good, but I don't feel that she has had sufficient time of learning. I pray that God will give me the peace I need when it is time to let her get her license.

Tomorrow starts Spirit week at school. The kids are pretty excited. Should be interesting to see what goes on throughout the week.

Time to close . . . have a great week!

Saturday and Katelyn trivia

This morning as I write Walter is vacuuming the main floor and the boys are doing chores. Randy is trying to relax and build with Legos - they take a great deal of concentration. He is building one of the Star Wars space craft . . . 5,196 pieces. Katelyn is having breakfast and reading.

Last evening we (Kate and I) cleaned Bugsy's cage for the first major clean. He is so funny and makes cute little sounds. Mia loves him and gives him kisses then she rolls to her side and waits for him to cuddle. Emma is doing better with him and actually kissed him today. Although when we put him on the floor we have to hold on to her because she wants to lunge at him. Kamie just watches him and is content with that.

Mr. Sun has decided to shine today and it is wonderful to see him again. We can definitely use a little of his heat as it is only 19 degrees.

Katelyn wants to go out driving today, so we will get out and about to do that. She turns 17 on Thursday this week so we will be celebrating with her. It is so hard to imagine I gave birth to her 17 years ago - where has the time gone? Wasn't it just yesterday that she was snuggled in a blanket and looked like a porcelain baby doll? Or maybe it was just yesterday when she would sit on top of our maual push sweeper and take a ride when either Grandma or myself would push it - remember grandma? Katelyn had a bunny rabbit named Thumper when she was five . . . she used to take it for a walk on a leash with collar. Then there was those ballerina days - she wanted to be a ballerina and would twirl and dance around. She loved Beanie Babies and had to have each one as they were released. I cried when she began Kindergarten although she was so very excited to go to school. I could go on and on in story form, but instead I am going to list 17 things about Katelyn you may or may not know.

  1. our miracle from God
  2. was premature - 6 weeks early
  3. is allergic to bananas
  4. learned to use the computer when she was two years old
  5. accept Jesus into her heart when she was almost 3 in the Wal-Mart parking lot
  6. ran into telephone poles while riding her bicycle when she was 7 or 8
  7. loves animals like her momma does
  8. plays the piano and flute
  9. was an only child until she was nine
  10. has never met a stranger
  11. giggles . . . a lot
  12. loves to read and read and read and read and read
  13. loves to cook and is becoming quite good at it
  14. has a servants heart
  15. has a tremendous drawing talent and uses it to glorify God
  16. is anxious to get her driver's license - me, not so much
  17. is a daughter that I am so very proud of . . . she takes my breath away
Now, onto my day . . .

Finally . . . the house has quieted, I must say it was out of control loud. The kids really need to get outside to run off some of that energy!

Today felt like a Monday - It was very long or at least it felt that way to me. I am exhausted.

EJ was in trouble at school again yesterday and today. I don't know that this child will ever learn to obey his teacher. Cameron has also been in trouble this week as he won't stay quiet when he is supposed to. Ryan joined Cameron's talking club and brought home a naughty note earlier in the week as well. Ryan is the only one that will tell us that he brought home a note - Cameron just won't tell us unless we ask and EJ hides them. No wonder I am exhausted!

Today I was busy with laundry and working on inventory for the office. Cody kept himself busy for most of the day until he wanted me to watch Max and Ruby with him. So, Mommy went into the family room to do just that.

I am not sure what tomorrow is going to hold for Cody and I. Who knows what we will do.

Do you ever have a case of the "Why Is Its?" You know . . . Why is it that ??????? The reason I ask is because this past week, I have asked that many times over. Let me share a little . . .

Why is it . . .???
  • when I go into the bathroom there is no paper on the roll? or at the most a square or two?
  • I am the only one that understands that the dogs need to go outside?
  • I am the only one that knows where toys go?
  • that I am the only one to recognize when a child's shirt is on backwards (or pants)?
  • no one sees the garbage needs out?
  • Mommy seems to be the only name my kids know when they are arguing, tattling or otherwise need a referee?
  • when I ask who did something no one seems to know who did it?
  • when I ask my children a question I am answered with only blank stares?
  • my boys think nothing of passing gas as they stand and talk to me or walk passed me?
  • you can't set those little air fresh thingies to only go off when it senses movement instead of every 35 minutes?
  • the water tank is empty in the morning when I want a cup of coffee?
  • nothing good is ever on television - even with satelite tv?
  • the doorbell always rings at the most unwelcomed time?
  • when you are in the bathroom everyone thinks it is their cue to come find you?
  • when you want your children or husband to listen to you they never can hear you, but when you are trying to talk privately everyone hears everything?
  • junk mail does not automatically go into junk mail?
  • you are dead tired, but cannot sleep?
  • you make a great dinner only to have someone you love snub it and say they want something else?
  • your children act as if they have had their driver's license for years and tell you how to drive? (a.k.a. little boy that is 3)
  • why is it said little boy won't cooperate and use the toilet like a big boy - after all, he already knows how to drive - shouldn't he know how to use the potty?
Well, I am not sure about you, but my list could go on and on. What can you add to this list? What is it that you don't know the "Why" of/to? By the way, when you figure it out, let me know! o.k.?

I would like to introduce you to the newest member of our family . . .

Meet Bugsy!

Bugsy is a sweet little guinea pig that we adopted today. Ryan has been wanting a hamster for some time now, but I was just afraid of it biting him as hamsters can be quite naughty. So, today after my nail appointment, Cody and I popped over to our local owned pet shop and looked around. We saw snakes, lizards, iguana, fish, birds, rats, hamsters and guinea pigs - three of them. These guinea pigs were born in the area and raised in a home environment until they were ready to be sold to a family.  The pet shop girl went to catch this little guy for me to see and he scurried around the cage. She finally caught him and he squeeled and squeeled. I held him and he settled right down. He and his sister look alike although Bugsy has more white. I chose him because there was zero chance of him being with piggies. Cody was so excited! We purchased all of the necessities for Bugsy and headed home. Cody helped me to set up the cage and get our new little pig into his cage. He headed straight for his little "man cave" that resembles a log cabin. It wasn't long before the boys were home from school and boy were they surprised. It wasn't 30 seconds and they had him named - Bugsy. Randy came in the door and was also surprised . . . he also surprised me - he was excited about Bugsy - no he didn't know I was getting him, so he was surprised too. He held Bugsy and rubbed him then we taught each of the boys how to hold him - poor little Bugsy! Then it was the dogs turn - they were extremely interested in this new little creature. Kamie began licking him and Mia sniffed and sniffed him. Emma was a bit stressed at the sight of Bugsy and wouldn't initially come near him. Here are a few more pictures:

I forgot to mention Katelyn's response. When she got home she said, I hear you picked up a little something today. I smiled and told her that yes indeed I did. She looked at him and laughed - then I handed him to her. He snuggled up next to her neck and she was hooked!

The Sun is Shining!

The sun is trying to shine today, but the cloudy gloom is giving it a good fight. The temperatures have fallen to about 16 degrees once again . . . a far cry from the 40's of last week. The weather is just playing with us! Oh how I miss the sun . . . :-(

The past two nights I have not slept well . . . I strained my neck over the weekend and it is still bothering me, plus I have had a headache to go along with it. I definitely feel like taking a nap today. That will be after my nail appointment.

Laundry is humming along today . . . have kept up with the laundry so it is not out of control! yippee! The house looks pretty good, so not much to do there.

The kids had a pretty good day at school yesterday and I am hoping they do again today.

The dogs continue to do well with their training. They are all being quite cooperative and calm. I love seeing the difference in them.

Has anyone watched the "Worst Cooks in America" on Food Network? OH MY GOODNESS . . . these people are REALLY bad! I am quite surprised though that the Chef teacher's didn't start these poor people out on easier recipies - I can't believe what they have them attempt. It is almost like they are setting them up for failure. My heart really goes out to them . . . some really tried, but just didn't have what it takes. One of the "chefs in training" actually had a fire on an ELECTRIC stove. Wow! Maybe they really are the WORST cooks in America!

Dinner at our house last night was roasted chicken breasts wrapped in bacon, green beans, sweet corn and bread/butter. It was a HUGE hit. Tonight will be Italian beef sandwiches AND macaroni and cheese. Did I mention that comfort food is such a hit at my house?

Better get to moving, must get the italian beef in the crock pot and get myself together for my nail appointment.

Weekend Recap

I can't wait for the first sign of spring and get rid of all of this gloom. January in Central Illinois is full of gray skies, dark days and the feeling of cabin fever. This past week looked just as I described it in the first two sentences. I am thankful we are getting ready to move on to February soon because we are ready for some SUNSHINE!

Today was pretty normal for us and we set our sights on getting the upstairs clean and tidy. It is really nice when everyone chooses to do their share without reminders, but that did not happen today. The master suite looks fabulous as does the hallway. Ryan tidied his room - which really needed it and then Katelyn ran the vacuum and mopped it for him. Cameron and EJ's room wasn't too bad, but their closet was out of sorts, so Cameron worked to get it tidied and the clothes put where they were supposed to be. Katelyn vacuumed and moped their room as well. Cody's room was a disaster with toys all over, so Cameron and EJ were to tidy it and put all of the toys away. Needless to say, they were too busy playing and arguing with each other that the room did not get finished. This week, Cody and I will dig into it and get everything where it is supposed to be. Then it can be vacuumed and mopped. The boys' bathroom was to be cleaned by Randy . . . not sure he did it.

Later this afternoon, Katelyn and I were enjoying a bit of peace and quiet upstairs in our sitting room when I was asked by Ryan if he could sit with me and watch a movie. Sure . . . no problem. It wasn't long before the boys and then Randy joined us. I am not complaining by any means, but I think everyone would have been more comfortable on the main floor in the family room - plenty of seating there. Nope - everyone joined together in our sitting room and sat on the floor to watch the movie - Indiana Jones. Popcorn and other snacks were enjoyed and I guess everyone had a great time.

The dogs are doing well with the new training system. Today we took the day off, but will resume it tomorrow. The house has been much more calm since we began the training system, we are very pleased. The dogs all appear to be at my feet all of the time too . . . guess I am the pack leader. I went into the bathroom to answer the call of nature and two of my dogs came into the bathroom and sat until I left the room. Was kind of weird. Emma seems to be the most calm - which is a real shocker, although she is not the easiest to teach commands to. Kamie is the easiest to teach and catches on pretty quickly - her barking has diminished by 60% in just a few days. Emma goes into her kennel now without fussing, whining or barking which I must say is incredible! Mia no longer screeches when put into her kennel - which really saves on the ears!

The snow is almost gone now and the only white we see is the fort wall that Randy built for the boys. I am glad to see it has melted away.

I must finish up so I can get to bed . . . morning comes early.

As I write, the temperature outside is 46 degrees and the rain is falling. What a difference a week makes! I love hearing the sound of the rain.

Everyone is in bed and asleep except Katelyn and I. We were sitting here at my computer looking at an old report card of mine from 1977-1978 when I attended Georgetowne Jr. High. We also looked through some yearbook pictures online and compared the high school photo to photos of the present time. Wow . . . do I dare say I feel extremely old? The words back in the old days came out of Katelyn's mouth a few too many times and I had to agree with her. Isn't that sad? Katelyn laughed at the hairstyles, poses in the year book and the overall look of the clothing. I told her that at least the kids in my day actually wore clothes that covered their bodies, unlike many today. We had a great time and laughed a lot. She told me that I was trendy right along with everyone else. She doesn't quite understand that I was a wall flower in our high school - there were so many students. She asked me if I thought she was trendy along with everyone else. I had to answer her honestly . . . "Katelyn, you are no a trend follower - you are your own person and more of a trend maker." I am so proud of my girl!

I cannot believe so many years have passed, or how much I have changed. When I was in school, I remember striving to get people to like me . . . to be in the "IN Crowd."  I didn't want to be a wall flower, but a member of  what was cool and going on. I guess in the years since jr. and sr. high . . . those married years have changed me. I no longer strive to be in the "IN Crowd" nor do I strive or even care to be "cool." I am just me, what you see is what you get. Do you know what? That is just fine with me. I don't care what people think anymore - it isn't important what people think. I simply want to be the best Wife, Mom, Daughter and Sister I can be. Life is too short to be anything less.

Retraining Our Dogs to be Wonderful!

We have been having a bit of a problem in our house . . . Emma our Lhasa Apso decided quite some time ago that it is o.k. to use our house as her pee area. I have tried everything short of euthenasia to get her to stop. Well, I came upon a dog training system and I received it today. I am using it on all three of our dogs - each one has their own set of issues. Emma pees, barks, lunges out the door and runs off; Kamie barks - constantly; Mia pees and poops inside at times and barks . . . all three have become my test subjects.

According to the DogFather . . . Dogs pee and poop in your house because they are showing THEIR authority over you. You must re-assume the Leader role and show them you will not tolerate their using the house as their bathroom.

The system uses a specialized collar that simulates the mother dog getting her puppy to obey. I swift tug of the leash that is connected to the collar and you get the attention of the dog, just as the mother dog gets the attention of the puppy. If the dog doesn't take heed, you tug a bit stronger.

This dog training system is supposed to address any type of dog problem or issue. So far . . . I have used it for about six hours and it has worked. The dogs are all wondering what in the world has come over me, but I am going to insist with them that they are not the head of this home, they are dogs (that I love very much) but enough is enough.

I know I have a lot to learn as a dog owner. We have instilled many of their bad behaviors in them and it is up to us to change those bad behaviors.

I am going to keep a journal of our training journey on a different blog - it will be accessible through this blog if anyone is interested.

The day is ending once again, where do those minutes of each day go?

Today was hair appointment day . . . everyone had their hair cut. Of course, I had my gray erased away and feel like a person again. The boys all look like boys again - I was teasing them by telling them that their hair was getting long enough for barrettes. Of course, they highly objected to the thought of anything girlie.

I spoke with the school secretary today about the bully that Ryan has been dealing with. Ryan didn't want to go to school today and that isn't like him at all. I let Mrs. H know what has been happening, the repsonse by the teacher and the fact that she didn't believe Ryan and was going to sit him at a table away from all of the other children. To say this Momma's feathers were ruffled a bit was an under-statement. Ryan came home in a much better mood and said he had a good day. The teacher did move the "bully" and Ryan was able to sit next to a nice boy. The "bully" told Ryan he was glad he didn't have to sit by him anymore because he didn't like him. I encouraged Ryan to dismiss anything that this little boy had to say and try not to let what he says bother him. I am fully ready to have a conference with the teacher if need be.

This evening we had Arby's Roast beef for dinner - they had them on sale. After dinner, we watched a little of Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe about growing and raising grasshoppers. It was quite interesting. After the portion of the show with the grasshoppers, I went downstairs and walked about 25 minutes on the treadmill. I had my ipod playing the music I played when I took walks on Sanibel Island a few years ago. I closed my eyes as I walked and imagined myself back on the beautiful beach and just walking . . . enjoying the shells, ocean life and people. I was really enjoying my "walk on Sanibel" when it was abruptly interrupted by three dogs and three little boys. Needless to say, the enjoying walk I had ended and I was trying to referree while walking - not nearly as relaxing.

Once my walk ended, Kate and I played Deal or No Deal on the Wii - I lost and then a cooking game on Wii of which I also lost - 3 times. It is hard to get the hang of those silly little hand held thingies. Cody kept telling me that Katelyn was doing better than I was. Then when my eggs were burning, he announced that loudly too. The game was a little stressful - I must find time to practice so I can beat Katelyn at least once.

Laundry is officially caught up and I only have two small loads for in the morning. I washed four small loads today and feel very accomplished that the laundry is not taking over any longer. Tomorrow I will be stripping our bed and wash the sheets and blanket. Then I will move on to tidy up and clean the two 1/2 baths on the main floor. I also told Cody I would take him to the basement family room to play Diego on the Wii - he is very excited about that.

The hour is late and I want to get to bed soon. Good night all.

Today I worked on laundry all day. Many of you know that I have two washers and two dryers - they were all running all day without any break.

In my previous post I described my horror to find one of the boys had a pullup in their sleeping bag that exploded all over my washer and clothes. Well, three loads later - an empty washer load to rinse and spin, then the sheets, then the sleeping bag . . . it was finally done and cleaned up.

I happily went on my merry laundry was and was certain I was going to be finished with laundry by around five or six o'clock. Well, that is not the case . . . it is now 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday morning. I have two loads drying. What happened? Thanks for asking . . .

I had just thrown in the last two loads of wash . . . or at least I thought they were the last loads, when Katelyn asked me if I wanted her laundry. WHAT???? You must be teasing me, right? Nope she wasn't I had towels, darks and lights. Then, to add to that . . . Ryan had clothes in his room that were dirty. Now, when I looked into his room this morning I was pleased to see a nice and tidy room - no clothes were in sight. THEN, Randy had more of his clothes . . . from where? I have no idea. Of course, then there were the clothes that each of the kids and hubby were wearing today. Yes, several more loads were in store for me . . . loads that could have been combined earlier in the day.

The good news  . . . in the morning, I will be able to fluff up my two loads - one is towels and one is white clothes - and then I will fold them up, put them into the baskets of each owner (yes, each person in our home has their own laundry basket) and they can get them put away.

Mom, technically you WON! I didn't get the laundry all finished before the day was over. But I do think you would be absolutely pleased to see that I have no laundry in my laundry room that requires washing. Laundry is all caught up! I did not have time to take pictures yet, because I still have those two loads drying in the dryers.

What about you, is the laundry sneaking up. BE CAREFUL, IT HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN!

Monday, January 18, 2010

I am happily doing laundry today . . . I have a goal - get all of my laundry done AND send my Mom a picture of an empty laundry hamper, washer and dryer, all with a time stamp - if I can figure out how to do that on my camera. Laundry is always at my house, it never ever leaves . . . there is always laundry to do, it is never done - at least never all at once!

I began my day happily and threw in two loads of laundry - one in each washer. I worked in the kitchen until the buzzers sounded and then went to change the laundry out and start more. I emptied one washer, threw the clothes in a dryer and then re-loaded the washer with the next load. So far so good. Open washer number two - I was mortified. I had a sleeping bag and sheets in the washer and with the sheets and sleeping bag apparently was a pull-up. The pull-up was definitely ultra absorbant from all of the gel goo that was all over my washer, sheets and sleeping bag. Ah Nuts! I had to pull out the sleeping back and sheets to clean out the washer - I literally had to vacuum out the mess. I then ran the washer through a rinse and spin cycle. Once it was done, I reloaded the washer and ran the wash again with an extra rinse. Finally, that load is finished and in the dryer. I am a bit off of my schedule now, but still have the goal of all of the laundry done. The child, which will remain nameless, will receive a talk about not storing used pull ups in his sleeping bag. Two of my boys tend to not wake to go to the bathroom in the night - so, to save all of the clean up, they wear pull ups. Cody still wears diapers to bed.

I had a lovely visit with my sister Jeanette and her two girls. I was excited to visit with them and we had a lot of fun. I also got to see her new car and play with the buttons and stuff . . . I felt like Buddy the Elf touching all of the buttons and messing. I thought Gabrielle was going to wet her pants she was laughing so hard. Thanks Jeanette for not yelling at me for messing with all of the functions of the car. ;-) I love you!!!

I am getting quite a bit done today and will finish up the kitchen before the kids get home from school. I still need to steam the floors - I love that job! I love nice clean floors!!! Especially barefoot!

Randy surprised me with a salad from Avantis for lunch. Yummy! I do think though that I need to go into the kitchen there to show them how to tear/cut up lettuce for salads. I really don't like having my lettuce in one big chunk!

Well, better get back to it . . .

Friday, January 15, 2010

It is Friday Night and our house is TOO LOUD AND I CAN''T HEAR MYSELF THINK. Is it bedtime yet? Everyone seems to be quite wound up . . . I guess it is because it is the weekend.

Sis is on a sleepover at one of her friends house and is going sledding tomorrow. She is bound to have a ton of fun!!! I am thrilled that she has such great friends.

That leaves Randy and I with the boys . . . Randy is putting together RyRy's Lego Table - which came with a crack in the top. I sent an email off to the company I ordered it from and we will see what they want to do about it. All of the pieces came seperately so it shouldn't be no big deal for them to replace it with another and I cannot imagine them wanting it back as the shipping would not be cheap.

The boys are supposed to be upstairs reading books, but the sound level tells me this is not the case . . .

Yesterday I went into the office to do a bit of work on a new product label layout . . . I was a little rusty at laying out the new label for the printer, but did get the job accomplished. It was nice, but weird to be in the office since I have worked from home for a few years now.

The kids had a pretty good week at school - which I was thankful for. There is one little boy in RyRy's class that is causing him some problems by saying not nice things to him. I would really like to get ahold of this little boy by the ear and set him straight about naughty and nice. I try to encourage Ryan of how to handle people like this kid, but it doesn't make things easier for him.

EJ has begun bringing reading homework home from school each night . . . he has a little bookmark that he is supposed to have signed by a parent that he has read his book aloud. He came up to Randy and asked him to sign his bookmark for his reading homework last night . . . Randy asked him if he read the book . . . yes was the answer. Randy asked him what the book was about . . . EJ's face was blank and he told Randy that he didn't remember. Randy asked him how many pages he read aloud and to whom . . . again a blank face. Randy said, "EJ you didn't do your homework and read this book." To which EJ replied, "Yes I did." Randy asked - "When?" EJ replied, "the first night of homework - (Tuesday night) and  apparently EJ didn't get the memo that homework was to be done each and every time the teacher sends it home with you.  He did get his homework reading done and Daddy did sign the bookmark.

My Answers . . .

1. You are pulled over by the Police . . . you know you were speeding. What would you do? Do you cry to try and get out of a ticket? Do you make up an excuse? Do you fake an emergency? Do you just own up to the officer that you were speeding and deserve the ticket?

First I believe I would remain calm. If I was daydreaming, I would tell the officer that is what happened. If I was speeding because I was in a hurry, I would tell him that. I will tell him that I deserved the ticket and just accpet it . . . I always tell my kids that if you choose to do something wrong, you have to face the consequences. What kind of example would I be if I lied?

2. If you go to a yard/garage sale and find an item that is quite valuable, do you let the seller know? or do you buy it up and then resale it to make a huge profit?

I don't go to garage sales, but if I did and found something I knew to be very valuable, I wouldn't feel right in purchasing the item. I would take the item to the "owner" and let them know the value of the item.

3. You have just returned home from a day out of shopping and you look at your sales receipt and notice the Sales Clerk rang your items up at Sale Price but the items weren't on sale. Do you go back to the store and let them know? Do you call them? Do you go back to make things right?

I would call them to see what they advise me to do.

4. You are in the drive thru - any driver thru - and you received your bags of food. You look into the bag to find that they have given you an extra sandwich . . . what do you do?

I generally look through my bags before driving away. If I had an extra sandwich, I would hand the bag back to them and have them check it out.

5. You and your kids just got out of Walmart and unloaded your bags into the car. You lift your child out of the cart to find a few items that you didn't pay for because your child was sitting on it and you didn't realize they were there. What do you do?

This has happened to me before and I loaded all of my bags into my car, then turned my cart around and went right back into the cashier to let her/him know what happened.

6. If someone is telling an offensive joke, do you go along with it? Do you speak up?

Not always. If my children were present, I would probably say something or just turn and walk away with them. If it happened while visiting someone, I would ask that the offensive jokes stop.

7. Is it ever acceptable to sneak a peek at your teen's emails?

I have never done this, but that doesn't mean that I would never do it. Having an email is a privilege and responsibility. Katelyn knows that I will check up on her and her emails if I feel the need. As a parent I think it is my responsibility to know what is going on.

8. Your dearest and oldest friend asks you for money . . . do you feel obligated to lend it to her/him?

Through trial and error, I have learned this one the hard way. I may feel sad that I cannot help them, I could not lend them money . . . money generally ends friendships.

9. Would you lie for your boss?

I don't have a boss. If I did, I would hope that he/she would never put me into a situation in which I would be asked to lie as that would make me very uncomfortable.

10. Your husband has invited guests over for dinner and you haven't a clue what to cook. You decide to order from a local eatery and then plate it for each guest like you cooked it yourself. Do you take credit for the meal? Do you tell them where it came from?

Tomorrow, I will answer each question as to what I would do. How about you, what would you do? Are you brave enough to answer honestly what you would do?

Today I received my copy of  REAL SIMPLE MAGAZINE. I love to sit quietly and go through each and every page. If you don't have this subscription, I think you would really like it. Anyway, this month there is an article about how to handle certain situations ETHICALLY. Here are some questions for you .  .  .

Hmmmmm - shall we have a go at it?

1. You are pulled over by the Police . . . you know you were speeding. What would you do? Do you cry to try and get out of a ticket? Do you make up an excuse? Do you fake an emergency? Do you just own up to the officer that you were speeding and deserve the ticket?

2. If you go to a yard/garage sale and find an item that is quite valuable, do you let the seller know? or do you buy it up and then resale it to make a huge profit?

3. You have just returned home from a day out of shopping and you look at your sales receipt and notice the Sales Clerk rang your items up at Sale Price but the items weren't on sale. Do you go back to the store and let them know? Do you call them? Do you go back to make things right?

4. You are in the drive thru - any driver thru - and you received your bags of food. You look into the bag to find that they have given you an extra sandwich . . . what do you do?

5. You and your kids just got out of Walmart and unloaded your bags into the car. You lift your child out of the cart to find a few items that you didn't pay for because your child was sitting on it and you didn't realize they were there. What do you do?

6. If someone is telling an offensive joke, do you go along with it? Do you speak up?

7. Is it ever acceptable to sneak a peek at your teen's emails?

8. Your dearest and oldest friend asks you for money . . . do you feel obligated to lend it to her/him?

CURIOUS MINDS WANT TO KNOW . . . HOW MUCH SNOW DID WE GET??? Well . . . just for you, I sent two of my kids out to measure the snow with a ruler.  Check out these pictures:

Several businesses in the area are closed, as are schools and churches.

What are you doing today?

WINTER STORM WARNING - until FRIDAY morning at 6:00 a.m.

The snow has been falling since around 7:00 p.m. and we already have another two to three inches on the ground from what I hear. Some of the weather people are calling for as much as 8 - 10 inches of snow for the storm total and other weather people are predicting 6 - 7" inches of snow. I am curious as to which one will be closer. NOAA weather radio is calling for 6" inches tonight alone and more on Thursday.

One of my friends compared the snow flakes to kisses from the angels. I had never heard that before, but the thought makes me smile. What a lovely thought.

If we get the snow the weather peeps are calling for, schools in the area will be cancelled. Along with the snow, they are calling for white out conditions with the blowing snow. It is to snow all day tomorrow into Friday.

I have been having problems with my DSL internet. It went dead this afternoon and I had to go to wireless and then call up the utility company. Supposedly it is in the line and the service tech will be out hopefully tomorrow.

Report cards came out today . . . everyone did well. We have a few areas that were a bit lower than I like to see . . .
  • one of the boys got a C in reading - first grade can be really tough! His grades were good other than the C with 4 A's and the one C.
  • Another had a note that he needed to pay attention and sit on his bottom - kindergarten is soooo demanding! Wow! His grades were good - 4 A's
  • The oldest son was upset . . . he didn't get many O's - which mean outstanding, but got all S's which mean satisfactory. His grades were great and he recieved 4 A's and 1 B . . . I think those are awesome grades for a second grade boy! He also only received four marks the entire second nine weeks.
  • Sis also received her grades . . . She received 4 A's and 3 B's with comments from the teachers like Great job!
Can you believe that the school year is already 1/2 over!?!?! Doesn't seem possible.

Well, everything is very quiet here and I want to check on our new fallen snow. Have a great night.

A Good Wednesday Morning to each of you! I hope this post finds you warm and well.

The temperature this morning is NEGATIVE three once again . . . I think I am seeing a trend! We have been in the negative temperatures for quite a few days now. Around sunset tonight, the winter storm is to arrive and I have seen estimates of 4 - 9" of snowfall expected. We already have about six inches of snow on the ground that has been there since the last snow that began on Christmas. The temps are to be in the negative double digits with gusty winds and blowing snow.

The house is quiet this morning . . . Cody is busy playing quietly with the Rokenbok RC set. The dogs are all sleeping, but will be  leaving soon for their day of beauty. JC will stay with Cody and I . . . I have to admit, I hardly know she is here, she is so good.

Yesterday Mia, JC, Cody and I went to my Sister's again to be with her girls until she got home. We had a great time once again. We had Lucy howling with us. Mia and Lucy began playing together and JC watched. I really enjoyed our time together.

I cancelled my nail appointment today. I had a 2:00 scheduled, but don't feel up to going. I have the Wednesday morning blahs I guess. I took some of the Boericke & Tafel Cough and Bronchial Syrup Night time last night and don't hardly even remember laying down in bed. I woke once to use the potty, but other than that - the best nights sleep in over a week and I didn't hack all night! Of course, since I didn't cough through the night, I had to get it all  out this morning. I then took the Daytime Boericke & Tafel Cough and Bronchial Syrup . . . it is breaking up all of that nasty mucus. I really think it works better than Mucinex. I highly recommend it and there is even a children's formula. It is all natural and homeopathic.

Cody announced to me upon waking this morning . . . I think we need to go back to bed after we take the boys to school. I must say, that sounds really good to me!

WOO HOO . . . Do you hear it? The house is quiet - well, except for mr. 3 year old. Even the dogs are quiet.

Most of my list is complete - with the exception of the laundry as it takes longer than a few minutes to do.

I even sneaked in five minutes on the treadmill before I started coughing my head off. I also started the dogs on a few minutes of the treadmill. Emma objected strongly and refused to walk - she even revolted by throwing up a little. Little does she know, she is going to have another go at it tomorrow.

Kamie was a little skiddish about walking on the treadmill at first but within a minute she was walking like she was a pro.

Little Mia fought me a little bit, but soon caught on without me even holding the leash.

Cody also decided it was time to walk on the treadmill too . . .

Here are some photos:

There was only one more furry baby in my house today - I am watching Mom & Dad's dog JC during the day. I know you are wondering, did JC try the treadmill too? Well, I have to tell you . . . Cody, Kamie, Emma, Mia and I were going up the stairs when JC peeked around the opening of the door and looked at us as we were walking up. Cody said, "JC didn't get a turn!" I told him that maybe we would give her a turn tomorrow and that she wasn't too enthused about coming to the basement for a walk.

What do you think?

You have heard of the "Life of Riley" right? Well . . .  I think that title suits her to the T!

Can you feel it? Do you have them? Do you want one?

What in the world am I talking about?

Can you feel it? The cold . . . the temperature right now is ONE degree. Yes, that is the actual temperature. What? Oh you want to know the windchill . . . NEGATIVE 7. If you don't know what negative seven feels like, just imagine this: you walk outside and immediately have icicles coming out of your nose because usually your nose starts to run and then it freezes. Imagine those poor dogs that have to go outside to go to the bathroom . . . poor little things! You can also stick your tongue to a flag pole to see if it sticks . . . it will, so don't do it unless you have back up support and a rescue squad to help you get your tongue off of the flag pole - the two will be come one.

Do you have them? Icicles hanging from your nose.

Do you want one? a nice warm heated blanket to snuggle up in on such a cold night.

The scary thing is that we aren't the coldest place in the world, not that you would ever want to go to the coldest place in the world. However, that does bring up the question . . .

Where is the coldest place in the world?

  • The coldest temperature ever recorded at the South Pole was more than 102 degrees below zero. That’s plenty cold, but it’s not the coldest temperature ever recorded on the continent of Antarctica.
  • In 1960, Russian scientists working at an Antarctic base called Vostok, more than 750 miles from the South Pole, recorded a temperature of almost 127 degrees below zero! This is the coldest temperature ever recorded anywhere on the face of this planet
Those facts are simply amazing. I cannot even begin to imagine what NEGATIVE 127 BELOW ZERO feels like. I imagine that a lot more than your snot will freeze in a matter of seconds.

Writing this post makes me cold . . . I want to snuggle inside a warm blanket. Now where is the remote?

Everyone is now in bed and the house is quiet. The current temperature is 1 degree. The temperature is supposed to drop to -4 tonight with about a -20 wind chill. Can I say it?  . . .

Baby It IS COLD Outside!

I am so thankful that we have a warm home AND a generator in case the electricity goes out. There have been many times the thermostat began dropping in out home due to winter storms or the bitter cold has caused problems.

We plan on staying inside tomorrow and not traveling around. It is simply too cold. I guess we will have to find things to keep the kids busy.

School begins on Monday. It seems as if the kids have been out of school for  a very long time - it doesn't seem possible that it was only two weeks ago they got out for Christmas vacation. I am a little concerned with school starting and it being so very cold. The temperature highs in the forecast are running between 13 and 19 degrees. Between the cold and the ice, it will be brutal.

Stay Safe and Stay Warm
