What Would They Do If They Lived In The 70s?

Kids today . . . What would they do if they lived during Our childhoods?

  • Reference materials were in the library - they would actually have to arrange a ride to get there and then figure out the card catalog system.
  • Four channels on the television, period.
  • Telephones had cords that connected to the wall.
  • What Internet?
  • Cassette tapes - they would break or need rewound with a Bic pen
  • VHS - didn't you hate waiting for them to rewind?
  • Cell phones? Nope
  • Texting? Nope
  • Personal cars? Nope, ride the school bus like everyone else.
  • Businesses were closed on Sunday.
  • Radio channels were mostly AM
  • Paper maps - no google maps back then.
  • We said the Pledge of Allegiance each and every morning.
  • We also sang the Star Spangled Banner.
  • Polyester had a run for a while.
  • Computers were HUGE and only for Large business.
  • I don't remember too many packages coming by mail.
  • No internet for online shopping.
  • Facebook - Nope - face to face was the only Facebook back then.
  • No tweets
  • Texting back then ~ maybe on a typewriter
  • Mail came pony express - or basically snail mail. Yep a trusty mailman delivered to your mailbox.
  • Movies were either at a drive inn theater or movie theater
  • The Wizard of OZ was only on television once a year.
  • Lip gloss was rolled on until it looked as if it would drip off your lips
  • Combs were carried in your back pocket, for those quick combs outs
  • There were no ipads or techy gadgets, only record players, tape recorders and 8 track tape players.
  • Kids took their lunch to school in trendy television themed lunch boxes.
  • Going out to eat was limited.
  • Every year just before school began there was a Saturday Morning preview special of the new Saturday morning cartoons to expect.
  • Jabber Jaws, Scooby Doo, Captain Caveman, Johnny Quest, HR Puffinstuff, Looney Tunes, Coyote and Roadrunner, Bugs Bunny
  • Teachers and Principals at schools had authority and they knew how to get a students attention.
  • A stern look from Mom or Dad actually meant something
  • Bedtime was generally 8:30 on a school night - it did not matter if you didn't get your homework done. Consequences folks, consequences.
Being a child of the 70's . . . oh the memories!
