Healthy Eating, Fresh Food Freezing and Essential Oils

I am constantly on the search for healthy alternatives for my family. These past six weeks have found us eating natural clean foods and only eating meat dishes two days a week. We are all doing very well and feeling great. It is amazing how wonderful clean, all natural, untainted food is!!! The boys consistently remark that they love the "healthy" foods.

Vegetable Spaghetti

Fresh Tomato

Filling the Freezer with fresh produce.

Fresh Blackberries

Fresh peaches

To freeze our fruits and veges, we are using a chamber vacuum seal machine. We absolutely love ours!

We have also dove into the world of Essential Oils.

I can already hear the questions . . .
Let me begin by saying ~
Essential Oils have been used for generations!

I borrowed this from doterra's website:

Essential oils have been used throughout recorded history for a wide variety of wellness applications. The Egyptians were some of the first people to use aromatic essential oils extensively in medical practice, beauty treatment, food preparation, and religious ceremony. Frankincense, sandalwood, myrrh, and cinnamon were considered very valuable cargo along caravan trade routes and were sometimes exchanged for gold.

Borrowing from the Egyptians, the Greeks used essential oils in their practices of therapeutic massage and aromatherapy. The Romans also used aromatic oils to promote health and personal hygiene. Influenced by the Greeks and Romans, as well as Chinese and Indian Ayurvedic use of aromatic herbs, the Persians began to refine distillation methods for extracting essential oils from aromatic plants. Essential oil extracts were used throughout the dark ages in Europe for their anti-bacterial and fragrant properties.

In modern times, the powerful healing properties of essential oils were rediscovered in 1937 by a French chemist, Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, who healed a badly burned hand with pure lavender oil. A French contemporary, Dr. Jean Valnet, used therapeutic-grade essential oils to successfully treat injured soldiers during World War II. Dr. Valnet went on to become a world leader in the development of aromatherapy practices. The modern use of essential oils has continued to grow rapidly as health scientists and medical practitioners continue to research and validate the numerous health and wellness benefits of therapeutic-grade essential oils.

What ARE Essential Oils?

(Again I borrow from the website.)

What Is an Essential Oil?

Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. If you have ever enjoyed the gift of a rose, a walk by a field of lavender, or the smell of fresh cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. In addition to giving plants their distinctive smells, essential oils provide plants with protection against predators and disease and play a role in plant pollination.
Essential oils are non water-based phytochemicals made up of volatile aromatic compounds. Although they are fat soluble, they do not include fatty lipids or acids found in vegetable and animal oils. Essential oils are very clean, almost crisp, to the touch and are immediately absorbed by the skin. Pure, unadulterated essential oils are translucent and range in color from crystal clear to deep blue.
Try this at home: Squeeze the peel of a ripe orange. The fragrant residue on your hand is full of essential oils.
In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and being beautifully fragrant to people, essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits. Modern scientific study and trends toward more holistic approaches to wellness are driving a revival and new discovery of essential oil health applications.

The next question I know you are going to ask . . .

Do they work?

We have used:

  • Lavender - during a thunderstorm to calm Beckett, Mia and Emma and YES it worked beautifully.
  • Digest Zen - Katelyn had an upset stomach - she rubbed a little on her stomach and YES it worked.
  • Lavender - I had a headache and rubbed it on my temples - headache gone.
  • Ryan has a sore throat - he is gargling with warm water mixed with On-Guard and Lemon. He said it makes it feel better.
  • EJ had a stuffy/snotty nose, so we treated him with an oil rub mixture on the bottoms of his feet. He giggle when I was massaging his feet - we will see how he feels in the morning.
  • Randy has a wart that he cannot get rid of. A little oregano oil . . . two or three days and we shall see if it works.
Will the essential oils work on everything?

Obviously, nothing works on everything but I definitely think it is worth a try. I definitely prefer the holistic approach to the "pill for everything" approach.

Now, don't get me wrong . . . I do believe in modern medicine and applaud it when it is needed. I simply would prefer to avoid illness so we don't need medication. A healthy, happy family is my goal.

I do not sell or receive compensation for any of the products mentioned in this post.

Have you heard of genesis one supplements? They are a christian based holistic supplement company that many, many in my church community are raving about the results of. They are expensive, but many have felt much better after using their system. They have scientific based "recipes" to treat just about everything from joint pain to autism. It interests me very much as I too think we use too many chemicals. Keep us posted on the use of oils and the effects you are seeing. Hugs to you!

Thank you for the information Leslie, I had not heard of Genesis 1. I will take a look!

I have a mister for the classroom and home. I look forward to putting the classroom one to work this week.

Right now I have the mister running at home and I am treating three with colds. We mixed three of the essential oils with oil and rubbed on the bottom of their feet . . . then added socks.
Cody immediately felt relief and was letting everyone know!

Will keep you posted!
