TODAY

Today has been a rainy, rainy day! We love it though! The kids love it when I make the BIG puddles alongside the curbs splash all over! We DID plenty of that this afternoon.

We are also enjoying the bits of thunder here and there!

AWESOME crackles and booms!

Once home, the kids went into overdrive - thee were BOXES on the porch and they were so excited. The boys are always excited to see the treasures within the boxes. Not sure today's delivery was too exciting once they opened the boxes, except for the pumpkin marshmallows and the strawberry marshmallows ~ they were a HUGE hit and the boys were even SMELLING them through the package.

While the boys were ripping through boxes, I decided to empty the photos out of my cell phone - (Phone Dump). It is amazing how many photos actually end up on a cell phone. I like to load them to computer every once in a while. Today it took a really long . . . a thousand photos. Here are a few:

How sweet going through photos was! We definitely had a great summer of fun with little creatures.

BOY, I SAY BOY . . .

There are days, my friend when a little picture and words explain your day . . .

The picture was not really aimed toward anyone, the day was just a little (ahem) busy and a bit chaotic.

  • Someone didn't get the large upright freezer door closed tight and many things thawed. I am thankful nothing got warm, but a bit irritated things thawed. Tonight all is well once again with the freezer.
  • The day was full of crazy - the boys were wound tight!
  • One of the dogs pooped on the floor - no one wanted to clean it up - go figure.
  • Braces for Ryan are going to cost just shy of $6,000.00. Insurance pays $1,000.00. He will have a mouth appliance installed in the roof of his mouth in a few weeks and braces will follow in six months.
  • One employee and One contractor didn't show up for work today. It was really a beautiful day and so much more could have gotten done with two extra pair of hands.
  • We looked high and low for some papers that were brought to my office at work. Couldn't find them for anything. Tonight, I found them in a notebook I had brought home ~ Glad my head is attached!
 Days can be full of the craziest things. Some things tend to nudge you closer to the edge than others and when they do, find humor in it all.

Parenting Boys Is NOT for Wimps

Parenting isn't for wimps!

There are so many people that are awesome at parenting ~~~ Too bad they aren't parents! Non parents always seem to know the answer to every parenting dilemma. However, parenting doesn't become REAL to them until they actually BECOME a parent or are in a parenting position.

I have been parenting for almost 21 years now. My first child, Katelyn has always been an agreeable child . . . and believe it or not, she would tell on herself if she did something wrong. She has always been a good girls . . . except for maybe a few of those two year old tantrums she has always been easy to parent.

Then, God added boys to our family X FOUR!

Parenting class began again ~ girls and boys are DEFINITELY a different species!

Here are a few things this Mama has learned being a BOY Mama:
  • Never, Ever let plans you have made be known by your children.
  • If the house becomes quiet be afraid, be very afraid! You should move quickly to see what they are up to.
  • "I'm telling . . . MOM!" is repeated over and over throughout the day and evening - No, it doesn't matter if Dad is home . . . they always call Mom.
  • Mom knows where EVERYTHING is . . . just ask my kids. They NEVER ask Dad!
  • If you want a spic and span house 24/7 . . . don't have boys.
  • Boys never pay attention to a wrapper on the floor, unless it has candy inside. They walk right on by ~ apparently boys do not bend in the middle.
  • Plan on buying shoes and jeans often . . . boys tend to grow like weeds on a hot summer day.
  • If you are planning to cook something special and need certain ingredients, hide them or you won't have them. Boys devour food as fast as I can put it away.
  • Boys don't care about clothing size ~ my ten year old will put on his seven year old brothers clothing and then look at me like I am from Mars when I ask him "Whose clothes are you wearing?"
  • Underwear may or may not be worn. Not kidding.
  • Bath time - doesn't automatically mean the boy will use soap. Better take the sniff test after the boy comes out of the bath. Soap to a boy is like sunlight to a vampire (not that I believe in vampires).
  • Shorts in winter and sweats in summer - boys don't care.
  • Boys NEVER are the ones that did ANYTHING . . . it is always the brothers that did it.
  • Boys tend to describe boy parts in words like - balls, wee wee, nards . . . the words balls and nards do not agree with Mama, but Daddy doesn't mind. Just so you know, we had a big discussion about proper words surrounding this one.
  • If one wants a snack, the others will be close behind.
  • Boys are rough and love to wrestle, any time and any place.
  • Boys can smell bacon from the backyard and then they circle the kitchen just waiting for a taste. Better cook plenty Mama.
  • Ask the boys if anyone needs anything from the store - they usually will answer no. However, within an hour from finishing with the shopping they NEED something.
  • Boys do not replace toilet paper when the roll is empty.
  • Boys sniff, pick and scratch ~ even though you have reminded them of their manners too many times to count.
  • Sit a boy down for church and they will have more wiggles than a child with ants in his pants.
  • Boys make up silly things.
  • Boys say things and expect Mamas to understand everything about the subject.
  • Boys fill up during snacks and meals, BUT there is ALWAYS time for dessert.
  • Boys have their own "scent" . . . all boy mamas know this.
I always say, "God laughed when he made boys!"

I am the Mama to FOUR lively and enthusiastic boys. God made me a BOY mama four times over. My boys never cease to amaze me . . . I love all of my children and I although I have days when I need that Calgon Take Me Away Bath, I am Blessed to be a BOY Mom. Boys love their mama like no other and to hear them say, "I love you Mommy!" never gets old!

Sunday Morning

Sunday Morning . . . a morning of slow and easy.

We had a HARD frost again last night ~
the ground and roof tops all covered white.

The boys have been playing wii all morning.
Cooking has been the game of choice . . .
flip those flapjacks Cody!!!
He came to me this morning and told me that he was
"cooking" with JA-lopenos.
Made me giggle.

As the kids play wii, I am listening to Matt Chandler of
the Village Church. I LOVE Podcasts!

Great teaching!
I highly recommend.

Pay attention to your desires -
Don't use God to simply get what you want.

Count it all joy . . . for trials of various kinds for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness!

God is working IN THE MESS and THOUGH THE TEARS.

Fall Pictures of my Kiddos

Picture taking is always a challenge when you want them to come out GREAT. Someone is always messing around, not paying attention or grumpy. Add animals to the mix and the photo shoot becomes a bit chaotic.

This afternoon the kids were all finally ready so we gathered everyone including the dogs and headed outside. The weather is pretty chilly, but I decided the boys should not wear shoes.

We had everyone in place, when Seeley Booth decided . . . he didn't think he wanted to participate, so he jumped down off of the hay bales. Emma decided to follow and belly flopped off of the hay bales - they were three bales high. Crazy girl!

We had "people" watchers - the ducks were keeping track of everything we were doing.

So without further adieu . . .

  Time to head to the leaves . . .

We finished up with photos - I told them to head for the leaves and they were thrilled.

After some rolling in the leaves we all headed in. Cody watched me process the photos . . . really easy this year since I only took minimal photos - not quite 200. I tend to take many photos to get just the right one. We had a fun time, but the sun was going down and the temperature was dropping quickly. I am thankful to have gotten some shots I really like.

Friday and a Day Off

We woke to a FRIGID Friday morning . . . there was a HEAVY frost that remained on the grass until the sun melted it off. The boys thought it had snowed. Randy called and requested his thermos be filled with HOT coffee.

I gave the boys the Day Off from school today . . . we have a few days built up to take off from school. We don't take some of the days the local schools take off which allows us a few random days off.

Katelyn headed out this morning to pick up a few things from our local Hobby Lobby. Randy brought home a gift - a banana tree from one of his friend Harvey. A new "home" for its roots. I also needed a few items for our lil' photo shoot for our Fall photo. After a few texts, text picture and phone call . . . she found what I wanted and checked out. She made a little Sonic stop for TOTs ~ Tots on Friday! The brothers will be THRILLED!!! I mean, who doesn't love Tater Tots? Right?!

While Sis was gone, the boys and I tackled a few things around the house. Alice has the day off today, so we had some house things to tend to. We did get the kid's lockers cleaned out in the mudd room - quite a chore. The dishwasher was loaded, family room tidied, wii cabinet tidied, desk cleaned off . . . again, counter tops tidied, rooms cleaned up and Ryan took Seeley outside for a short run in the yard.

Now, lunch and then outside to take care of DUCK comfort and pictures.

Have a great day!

Today

We woke this morning to pretty cool temperatures . . . and tonight we have a chance of FROST! I am not so sure I am ready for the temperatures to get quite this cold already . . . could make for a very long winter.

This afternoon when the boys were done with school, we headed out to our construction site. I had them all suited up with hard hats and jackets . . . of course, true to self I had on my sandals and capri jeans. I decided to take the boys on a walk around the property . . . I challenged them to count their steps. If their counting was correct, the property is almost a 3/4 of a mile around. Daddy doesn't think their counting was correct and figured it out to be 1.5 miles around the property lines.

We had Mia and Beckett along for the walk. Mia started off with one of the boys and ended up with me. Poor little thing just didn't want to follow those boys! (I have to say, I don't blame her . . . SHINY! Yep, that is how they roll.)

They finished up their counting and then we took a little drive around in Daddy's little "golf cart" like thing. The boys thought it was pretty cool that Mom knows how to drive it. Mama had her hard hat on too . . . it is orange.

We were all chilled to the bone, so we headed home so I could get dinner started. It was nice to be home where it was nice and warm and the wind wasn't cutting through our bodies.

Randy and I are hoping the weather isn't nasty for a while yet . . . too much construction still needs done before the snow flies.

~~~~~
I am over half done with my Christmas shopping. I am feeling pretty good about it, but know I want to have all of it done within a few weeks. Sometimes, it is really hard to figure out what exactly to get someone. I keep a list . . . it is a MUST. I love it when all of the blanks are filled in.
I do need to work on figuring out our Christmas Card Photo. This is ALWAYS a challenge to come up with a GREAT idea. I will be scouring Pinterest for a hint or two.
What is Pinterest?
Have you entered the World of Pinterest?
Many of you are asking "What is a Pinterest?"
Well,  Pinterest is a pinboard-style photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, and hobbies. Users can browse other pinboards for images, "re-pin" images to their own pinboards, or "like" photos.
There is a lot of really interesting and helpful things on Pinterest. Plenty of recipes, decorating ideas, fun stuff, crafting ideas, homeschool ideas, toy ideas, organizing ideas . . . and it goes on and on.
While browsing Pinterest I found these:
 Meal and Treat items
Holiday Decorating
Organizational tips
Design
  Beautiful Words
 Too much cute for one person!
Pointers and Tips
 Or just plain silliness!
I invite you to give Pinterest a try . . . You may find an idea or two!
Encourage or Discourage?
Why do people insist on expressing their opinion or being negative to others?
Was the Classic Disney movie Bambi hidden from their childhood? Little Thumper says it all in one little sentence.
Isn't it amazing how ONE person's open mouth can hurt another ~ or make them feel useless?
A tongue used unwisely is as sharp as a two edged sword . . . and can cut deeply:
  • harsh words spoken in a moment of anger
  • careless words spoken to lift one's self higher than another
  • hateful words
  • discouraging words
  • comments that cause despair
  • cutting and judgmental words - meant to hurt
  • sarcastic words
Friends, take a moment to assess the words you have spoken today. Have you said unkind or hurtful words? Words that encouraged or discouraged?
God has given you breath . . . without breath words are impossible. Make each breath you have been given to encourage, not discourage.
Proverbs 16:24  Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.
Meet Geoffrey
Magazines and Catalogs have been arriving in our mailbox on a pretty regular basis. We recently received a Frontgate catalog and as I was flipping through it came upon Geoffrey.
This is Geoffrey . . .
 Geoffrey the Butler is available to stand, smiling in you home as you host dinner parties and gatherings. He can be in your home for a mere $1,399.00.
Between you and me . . . I think Geoffrey is a bit freaky . . . kind of like a scary Chucky doll.
Imagine forgetting about Geoffrey and getting up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water and run into him! Just sayin . . .
The Dreams of Many Have Been Shattered
Dreams . . .
Dreams are a beautiful thing. Most of us dream while we sleep . . . some are beautiful, some are odd, some are just plain crazy.
A Dream can also be something that we DREAM of doing, having, wanting. Tonight, the Dream of many good people was crushed. You see, the old Pekin Community High School has been sitting vacant for many years now. This old building has been vandalized, stripped and destroyed over the years. Yet, the building continues to hold hopes and dreams of the people that attended high school there. So many memories . . .
Former teachers and students are devastated tonight as the news was released . . . the building will be torn down. Many people tried to "rescue her", many rallied together, people tirelessly fought to keep the Old Girl in tact. In her prime, she was Gorgeous . . .
As I look at this picture, I can "feel" the sense of pride of the students. The architecture of the building was amazingly beautiful.
 My heart is saddened to hear this part of the City's history will soon be demolished.
There were so many dreams associated with this Old building. Dreams of what could be . . . now, we must focus on the memories.
Everyone has special memories that were made inside the walls of West Campus, ask anyone that attended there.
  • the beautiful staircases
  • the "elevator" pass
  • the girls gym
  • the Leeway
  • going third floor of the English building to the third floor of the original building in 6 minutes time
  • the bonfires
  • the Dragon's Den
  • the P.E. uniforms for girls
  • the lunch ladies in the cafeteria
The list could go on and on ~ so many good memories!
Pull out an old Pekinian year book and remember. Memories are a special gift to each of us . . . future generations should hear stories about PCHS West Campus. Share the Memories!
Back to the Future
I spent my morning with my youngest little man . . . we built with Lego. The Delorian from Back to the Future was the project. It took a while!
 First . . . separate all pieces by color.
Follow the directions closely . . .
Making HUGE progress on the Delorian.
Multi color wheels . . .
All put together . . . whew, it was a lot of work building a Delorian!
 There are always left over pieces . . . and no, we didn't leave anything out!
Now for a soak in a hot tub for Mommy and time to go to the future for Cody.
